The kind of summer night that feels effortless, meaningful, and very New England
The thing I love most about being a Massachusetts family photographer is the variety of locations we have here in New England. There is just so much to choose from, and each place brings something completely different to a session. Whether it is the North Shore marshes, Cape Cod, or open fields in Western Mass, there is always an option that feels very New England.
This particular family session took place in Gloucester, Massachusetts at the beautiful Wingaersheek Beach. It is one of my favorite spots for beach sessions on the North Shore. Between the soft dunes, the shallow shelf of the ocean, and the unique rocks scattered along the shoreline, there’s so much variety while still feeling cohesive for a session.
As a Massachusetts family photographer, I am always thinking about how colors and styles will work within a location. For this session, I really wanted the tones the family wore to stand out against the soft, natural backdrop. The muted colors of the beach helped their outfits to pop in a really effortless way. I especially had this vision for the kids clothes to compliment the bright red lifeguard stand.
We ended up getting so lucky with low tide, which always makes Wingaersheek Beach even more special for family photos because of the massive rocks to climb on. There is so much more space to explore, and it creates the perfect environment for kids to just be themselves. We spent the evening finding little treasures, chasing seagulls, and leaning into the kind of candid moments that make lifestyle family photography feel so meaningful.
These are the kinds of summer evenings I always hope for as a Massachusetts family photographer. Warm light, salty air, and families simply enjoying time together. It is relaxed, unposed, and full of the moments you actually want to remember.
